Photo-A-Day #1: My Trusty Companion

I carry this with me every day.  Albeit, too big, made of plastic, and not a great top that I always take off, it is a trustworthy 64 ounces that I try to fill twice per day with our trusty Brita Filter Pitcher.  I usually struggle to finish the second one.  I've heard all kinds of advice about how much water to drink per day, but I tell my Health Coaching clients to drink until you pee clear.  Then, you are hydrated.

And the Winner Is.......

Announcing the winner of the first cSpin Healthy giveaway:

Ellen will received a 22 oz LifeFactory water bottle of her color choice.

Stay tuned for more giveaways, and thank you to all for supporting cSpin Healthy.

Also, since the theme of the giveaway is water, I thought I'd repost a great resource on water I came across from my studies to become a Holistic Health and Nutrition Coach.  The FAQ section is superior along with information on why water is so vital to our well-being.

First Giveaway

I've been a bit "off the grid" lately.  It's the end of the school year (I work in a middle school.).  Summer is here.  I've been consumed with family and study for my certification as a Holistic Health Coach.  If you read a few posts ago about my new water bottle, I talked about an upcoming, first giveaway.  Well, here it goes.....

I'm giving away a new product I've discovered.....the new Lifefactory water bottle.

It's all glass.  No leeching issues.  It has a silicone sleeve wrapped around it, so there is no leaking.

Why am I doing this?  Simple.  Because it's something I like and I think it would be fun to pay it forward.

What you Win:  One 22 oz. LifeFactory glass water bottle.

How Do you Win It:  Do one or more of the following:

1.  Post a comment to this blog on what you do to stay healthy.  What do you do for exercise?  What is your diet like?  Or, what do you wish you could do better with your health?

2.  Blog about this post on your blog, and send me the link to cspinhealthy@gmail.com or post link to comments here.

3.  Post this blog entry to your Facebook page and send the link to it at cspinhealthy@gmail.com or in the comment section here.

4.  Tweet about this blog entry on Twitter and send me a link at cspinhealthy@gmail.com or post to comments here.

If you do all four, that is four entry chances to win.

I'll announce the winner Wednesday evening!  I look forward to hearing from you.

Water

Ten years ago, I loved my Diet Coke.  I still drank regular pop (er, soda if you are not from the Midwest), and I never worried about how much water I consumed.  Enter:  Weight Watchers.  I was 279 lbs. and rapidly declining health-wise at too early an age.  Weight Watchers told me to drink at least 72 ounces of water per day, so I did whatever they said and just got used to running to the bathroom at first.  I lost 79 lbs. on Weight Watchers, but I did not know about what healthy food was then.  (I talk about that here.)  Yet, I knew about the importance of water.  I started carrying a water bottle with me wherever I went.  It just became a habit.  Now, a water bottle is as important to me as a good coffee mug.

I think I've found the water companion for me:

The Lifefactory water bottle.

Read up on their cool story.  Started by two pediatricians, there's a whole line of kid/baby products.  All environmentally friendly.

No leaching issues from plastic.  It's glass!  I think it just tastes better than from a plastic bottle, which is the main reason I bought it.  The only issue I have is that the largest bottles are only 22 oz. versus my old 32 oz. Nalgene plastic bottle, but it's a small price to pay.

I used to try to drink at least 72 oz. of water per day simply because Weight Watchers told me to do so 9 years ago.  However, the amount of water one should consume is a frequently debated topic.  Some say to only drink when thirsty.  Some say 8 cups per day.  Others say to drink your body weight in ounces.  My conclusion:  Drink until my "you know what" is clear!  Seems to be a good indicator that I'm hydrated.

Oh.....and I always make sure I drink filtered water!
Here is a great resource about water I came across from my studies to become a Holistic Health Coach.

STAY TUNED:  THE FIRST CspinHealthy GIVEAWAY ANNOUNCEMENT IS COMING SOON, AND IT'S RELATED TO WATER!

Sodastream

Sodastream | turn water into fresh sparkling water and soda

Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to get a soda maker, something I spotted a few months ago in a magazine and come to find out my sister had one in her kitchen.  This one is simple and easy to use.  We really do not keep any pop/soda in the house, and even Diet Coke has lost its luster for me.  Too fizzy and just doesn't do it for me anymore.  However, over the summer, I found that naturally flavored soda/seltzer water was a good substitute and was a good break from water, water, water.

With this gadget you are not only being environmentally friendly, but there is no high fructose corn syrup and no aspartame.   You can add flavors to it tastes like soda/pop.  There is sugar in the regular flavors and Splenda in the diet flavors.  However I prefer the My Water flavors (lemon-lime, orange, berry, and mint).  Or, I'll just add a lemon, a lime, an orange, etc. to just plain soda water.  (It's cheaper that way!)  Click on the banner above to check it out.
